Millville parents and caregivers who rely on WIC lost their local stop as Gateway Community Action Partnership closed its office at 811 W. Main Street, Suite F, forcing families in Cumberland County to travel to Bridgeton or Vineland for nutrition services starting May 4.

The Millville office closed permanently April 27, ending a site that had served clients on Mondays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Beginning May 4, families were directed to Gateway’s WIC offices at 10 Washington St. in Bridgeton or 610 E Montrose St. in Vineland.

For Millville households that used the site for routine appointments, the change turns a neighborhood service into a longer trip. WIC is not just a food benefit. Gateway says the program provides eWIC benefits for nutritious foods and baby formula, along with nutrition education, lactation support, immunization education and health care referrals. New Jersey WIC says the program serves pregnant, breastfeeding and postpartum women, infants and children up to age 5.

The loss matters because WIC often serves families who are already balancing work schedules, child care and transportation limits. Gateway says its WIC program serves thousands of clients across Atlantic, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland and Salem counties, and a separate notice says the program reaches more than 21,000 clients annually through nine offices. That scale makes the Millville closure more than a building change; it is a shift in how nearby families access a basic public-health service.

Gateway listed the Bridgeton office at 10 Washington St., Bridgeton, NJ 08302, and the Vineland office at 610 E Montrose St., Vineland, NJ 08360. The organization’s contact page listed the Millville office’s number as 856-300-5352 or the Bridgeton WIC office for assistance, while Vineland’s hours were posted as Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

USDA says WIC provides healthy foods, personalized nutrition education, breastfeeding support and referrals to other services. In Cumberland County, those services will now be concentrated outside Millville, shifting the burden of access onto the very families the program is designed to support.
