Repeat champions sweep Cape-Atlantic League boys tennis titles at Vineland
Miguel Manalang and Ocean City’s Gabe Meron and Brendan Sardy defended their Cape-Atlantic League tennis titles at Vineland High, underscoring how hard it is to repeat in South Jersey.

Repeat titles set the tone at Vineland High School, where Cedar Creek freshman Miguel Manalang defended his singles crown and Ocean City’s Gabe Meron and Brendan Sardy repeated as doubles champions. In a league where one strong day can change everything, back-to-back wins stood out as the clearest sign of sustained excellence.
The Cape-Atlantic League tournament brought the region’s boys tennis depth to Vineland’s courts, again placing Cumberland County at the center of one of South Jersey’s most competitive postseason stages. For local fans, the setting mattered as much as the results: Vineland High School offered the backdrop for a tournament that drew players, coaches, families and spectators from across the league.

Manalang’s second straight singles title marked a rare level of consistency for a freshman, especially in a field where every match can turn on composure and shot selection. Meron and Sardy matched that achievement in doubles, winning the title for the second consecutive year and reinforcing Ocean City’s standing as one of the league’s most reliable tennis programs.
The Cape-Atlantic League’s structure helps explain why repeat champions are so notable. Established in 1949, the league operates under the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association and now includes 22 schools across Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland and Gloucester counties. That cross-county mix gives the tournament its weight: the finalists are not separated by much, and the margin between a first-place finish and an early exit is often thin.

Vineland has also remained a familiar host. A league schedule listed Vineland High School as the site for the boys varsity CAL tournament on May 1, 2025, and earlier tournament coverage noted that more than 100 players competed over three days before the finalists were crowned on the Vineland courts. The venue has become part of the league’s postseason rhythm, bringing high school tennis into the local spotlight in a sports landscape that often revolves around football, baseball and basketball.

The pattern of repeat winners is not limited to this year. Ocean City had five of the six finalists at the 2024 Cape-Atlantic League tournament at Vineland, and Charles DiCicco won his second straight singles championship there, another reminder that the league’s top programs are still setting the pace. For challengers across Cumberland County and the rest of South Jersey, the message from Vineland was straightforward: beating the best once is difficult; doing it again takes a program built to last.
