City of Parsons adds debit and credit card utility payments

Parsons utility customers got a new way to stay current on gas, water and sewer bills: debit and credit card payments are now accepted both at City Hall and through the city’s online portal. The change matters because it gives working residents, older customers and anyone paying from out of town a faster way to avoid falling behind, but it also comes with a cost that customers will want to see before they click submit.

The city said card payments made in office or online carry a 2.5% processing fee. Online ACH payments, which remain available, have a $1.00 processing fee. For customers who choose the card option online, the city’s portal directs users to select City of Parsons Utility Billing from the drop-down menu and enter a 12-digit utility account number before sending payment.

If a customer does not know the full account number, the city says to call 731-847-6358 for help. That number matches the city’s main contact line and is also listed for the City of Parsons at its mailing address, P.O. Box 128, Parsons, TN 38363. The Municipal Center is at 535 Tennessee Ave South in Parsons.

The update builds on an earlier push toward digital payment options. The City of Parsons utilities page says the Utility Department provides natural gas, water and sewer service, and it already linked to an ACH application before the card option was added. At a June 2, 2025 council meeting, Mayor Tim David Boaz said the city was offering online bill pay for utilities and current property taxes through the Citisen Portal. Council minutes from that meeting also made clear that delinquent taxes still could not be paid online and had to be handled at Decatur County Court.

For Decatur County residents, the utility office remains an important local stop for water and sewer service, and the county’s utilities directory lists Parsons City Hall as the contact point for those customers. The city’s rate materials also show separate charges and fees for gas, water and sewer, including connection and reinstatement fees, which makes a more flexible payment system especially useful for households juggling multiple bills.
