County Commission to Fill Three Vacancies, Public Input Encouraged
Decatur County officials have scheduled several public actions that affect local representation, waste services, and corrections oversight, including a commission meeting to fill three vacant seats, a request for solid waste service bids, and a community corrections advisory board meeting. These items matter because they shape who represents residents at the commission, determine who will provide county waste disposal services, and influence local corrections programming.

Decatur County will hold a regular commission meeting on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at 6:00 PM in the Decatur County Courthouse, 22 West Main Street, Decaturville, with a 15 minute public input session beginning at 6:00 PM. The commission plans to fill three vacancies during that meeting, two positions for District 7 commissioner and one position for District 8 commissioner. Residents who wish to speak are asked to contact the Decatur County Mayor’s office at 731 852 2131 or to sign in 15 minutes before the meeting is called to order.
Filling two District 7 seats and one District 8 seat will alter the commission s composition and could shift voting dynamics on budget, public works, and county services. These appointed positions will carry the remainder of terms until the next election cycle, making the January meeting a consequential opportunity for constituents to influence short term policy decisions and oversight.
The county is also accepting sealed bids for solid waste disposal services. Bids will be received at the office of the County Mayor in the Decatur County Courthouse on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at 2:00 PM local time. Bid documents may be reviewed at the mayor s office, and may be obtained from F&M Consulting, INC. at 25 Court Street, Savannah, Tennessee 38372 during normal working hours, 7:00 A.M. till 3:30 P.M., Monday thru Friday. Bids must be submitted on the provided bid form and sealed in an envelope plainly marked 'BID FOR DECATUR COUNTY SOLID WASTE DISPOSAL SERVICES'. Decatur County reserves the right to reject any and all bids. The procurement will affect service continuity, municipal costs, and the county s relationship with regional haulers.
A 24th Judicial District Community Corrections Advisory Board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at 11:30 AM at Mi Pueblito Mexican Restaurant in Parsons. Community corrections oversight touches local probation and alternatives to incarceration, and the advisory board meeting offers a forum for program review and interagency coordination.
