Decatur County announces New Year closures, bids, and commission vacancies
Decatur County closed its courthouse and solid waste convenience centers on January 1, 2026, for New Year’s Day, and county officials have announced two near-term actions with direct impact on residents: sealed bids for county solid waste disposal are due January 13 and the County Commission will meet January 20 to fill three commissioner vacancies. Both actions affect basic services and local representation, and residents are urged to review bid requirements or participate in the public meeting.

Decatur County government confirmed that the Decatur County Courthouse and all Solid Waste Convenience Centers were closed on January 1, 2026, in observance of New Year’s Day. The temporary closure affected in-person access to county offices and waste drop-off services on the holiday, with regular operations resuming after the holiday.
Looking ahead, Decatur County Solid Waste will accept sealed bids for county solid waste disposal services on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. local time. Bids must be delivered to the office of the County Mayor at the Decatur County Courthouse, 22 West Main Street, Decaturville, TN. Interested firms may review bid documents at the mayor’s office or obtain them from F&M Consulting, INC., located at 25 Court St., Savannah, TN 38372, during normal business hours of 7:00 A.M. to 3:30 P.M., Monday through Friday. Questions about bidding may be directed to 731-925-2983.
Prospective bidders must use the provided bid form and submit proposals in a sealed envelope labeled plainly on the outside: BID FOR DECATUR COUNTY SOLID WASTE DISPOSAL SERVICES, along with the company name and license number. Specified insurance is required for submission. Decatur County reserves the right to reject any and all bids. The county’s selection will determine who handles collection, transportation, and disposal of solid waste for the county and could influence service continuity and costs for residents and businesses.
The Decatur County Commission will hold its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at 6:00 P.M. in the Decatur County Courthouse, 22 West Main Street, Decaturville. The Commission will consider filling three vacancies: two positions representing District 7 and one position representing District 8. A 15-minute public input session will begin at 6:00 P.M., followed by the formal meeting. Residents wishing to speak should contact the Decatur County Mayor’s office at 731-852-2131 or sign in at the meeting 15 minutes before it is called to order. Additional guidelines are available at decaturcountytn.gov.
Decatur County Government affirms it does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, disability, or national origin. The courthouse is accessible to individuals with disabilities, and the county will make reasonable accommodations when necessary. Anyone with a disability who requires assistance should contact the Decatur County Mayor’s office at 731-852-2131 before the meeting. The upcoming bid process and commission appointments present immediate opportunities for civic engagement and will shape local services and representation in the months ahead.
