Decatur County Commission to fill District 2 school board vacancy Feb. 23

The Decatur County Commission will hold its regular monthly meeting on Monday, Feb. 23, 2026, at the Decatur County Courthouse, 22 West Main Street in Decaturville, and will "look to fill a vacancy for District 2 School Board," the county posted on its official Facebook page. The notice instructs that "Any persons interested should attend."

The county posted that the Budget Committee will convene at 5:30 p.m. ahead of the evening session. The Facebook notice lists 6:00 p.m. as the public meeting time and also states, "There will be a 15-minute Public Input session beginning at 6:00 PM, followed by the meeting." That wording appears alongside the single-line meeting time and leaves unclear whether the formal call to order will be exactly at 6:00 p.m. or immediately after the 15-minute public input window.

The county spelled out how members of the public may participate: "Anyone interested in speaking should contact the Decatur County Mayor’s office at 731-852-2131 or sign in 15 minutes before the meeting is called to order." The Facebook capture shows the post recorded one reaction, a low engagement figure that may surprise residents tracking the appointment process for the District 2 seat.

Decatur County’s notice also includes its public comment guidelines on the county website, and the Facebook post repeats the county’s accessibility and nondiscrimination statements: "Decatur County Government does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, disability, or national origin. The Decatur County Courthouse is also accessible to individuals with disabilities. Decatur County Government will, when necessary, make reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities. Any person with a disability should contact the Decatur County Mayor’s office at 731-852-2131 before any meeting if they require additional assistance."

The county website capture accompanying the notice contains procurement language that may reflect other business before commissioners at upcoming sessions. That text requires a "Certificate of commercial general liability insurance, including coverage for bodily injury & property damage" with "Combined single limit minimum per occurrence: $1,000,000.00 with commercial umbrella of $5,000,000.00 per occurrence" and "Proof of Workers Compensation insurance, as per state of Tennessee requirements," and it states that "Decatur County reserves the right to reject any and all quotes." The capture lists past agenda files but does not include a full Feb. 23 agenda or the names of any applicants for the District 2 vacancy.

This notice applies to Decatur County, Tennessee (Decaturville) and should not be confused with separate Decatur County governments elsewhere.
