Parsons, Decatur County Schedule Public Meetings on Parks, TDEC Application
Decatur County will take public comment Feb. 19–March 31 on parks needs as it prepares an application to the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation; an in-person hearing is March 17.

Decatur County announced a public input process tied to a prospective application to the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, scheduling an in-person meeting at the Decatur County Courthouse on March 17, 2026 at 4:00 PM and a social-media comment window on the Decatur County Tennessee Facebook page running Feb. 19, 2026 through March 31, 2026. The county notice frames the meetings as part of a formal grant-preparation step and gives Mayor Mike Creasy as the contact for accommodations at 731-852-2131.
The county public notice lays out the purpose plainly: the meetings will “discuss the County’s intent to submit an application to the State of Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation and to solicit input from the citizens regarding recreational needs within the County.” The notice adds an appeal to turnout: “This is a great opportunity for the citizens of Decatur County. These public meetings can provide the foundation for a community development program for parks designed to enhance the quality of life for every citizen. It is imperative that the citizens take part in these meetings.”
Decatur County also posted administrative material with the public-notice, including a list of recent agendas with dates such as 02.23.2026, 01.20.2026 and entries back to 3.23.2023, and a header noting “DECATUR COUNTY, TENNESSEE COMMISSION MEETING PUBLIC COMMENT GUIDELINES” with GUIDELINES — Approved 11/25/2024. Those guidelines establish the formal channel through which citizens may address the County Commission during meetings as the county solicits feedback for park planning and a potential TDEC application.
The City of Parsons separately posted a public hearing and City Council meeting notice showing a regular board meeting scheduled Monday, March 2, 2026 at 6:00 PM at the Parsons Municipal Building, 535 Tennessee Ave South, Parsons, Tenn. 38363, with public comment opening at 5:45 PM. The Parsons webpage includes standard nondiscrimination and accessibility language and instructs any person with a disability to contact Mayor Tim David Boaz at (731) 847-6358 prior to the meeting; the page also invites the public: “The Public is invited to attend this and all meetings of the Parsons City Board.”
A public notice placed through The News Leader and posted on the Tennessee Public Notice site additionally announced that the City of Parsons would hold in-person and social-media public meetings to gather resident input about community parks and recreation, and “urges citizens to attend, comment, and discuss needs and priorities for Parsons’ recreation programs.” Decatur County’s notice explicitly links its outreach to a TDEC application, while the city website excerpt provided does not mention a TDEC application in the Parsons posting.
Decatur County’s in-person hearing March 17 and the Feb. 19–March 31 social-media comment window are the formal opportunities the notice identifies for residents to shape how the county frames any TDEC grant request and future parks development.
