Parsons event raises funds for Perkins Center, honors local heroes

Flags flew beside Decatur County Bank in Parsons from June 11 through July 7 as the Carl Perkins Center used its Decatur: All-American Heroes campaign to raise money and honor local heroes. The program began June 11 at 12:00 p.m., and each flag cost $20.

The effort tied that tribute directly to the center’s core mission: providing support to families in preventing and dealing with child abuse. The Decatur County Carl Perkins Center is located at 125 Central Ln. in Parsons, Tennessee 38363, and the center says its work has reached 5,131 children and 2,296 adults.

Residents were invited to make the tribute personal as well as practical. A Decatur County Carl Perkins Center Facebook post told people they could “honor or memorialize your hero” by stopping by the center, and the campaign included a Heroes Breakfast and All-American Heroes presentation on Friday, June 26, at the Decatur County Bank, Parsons location.

The center had also described the annual fundraiser as coming with “slight changes,” but the purpose stayed the same: bring people together around a local cause and a local name. In a county where civic events often depend on a small number of steady supporters, the format gave residents a clear way to participate and to recognize someone they wanted remembered.

That local giving has paid off before. A prior Round-Up For Kids fundraiser raised $1,600 for the Carl Perkins Center, underscoring how smaller community efforts can still bring in meaningful help for families in Decatur County. The All-American Heroes campaign carried that same idea forward, using a public display in Parsons to connect remembrance with the center’s ongoing work.
