Riverside High School to host Senior Signing Day Thursday afternoon

Riverside High School put its seniors in the spotlight in the RHS gym Thursday, when the school held Senior Signing Day from 12 to 1 p.m. and welcomed parents to attend. The midday ceremony gave families a public chance to see seniors mark the move from high school to whatever comes next after graduation, whether that is college, technical training, military service or work.

The event took place at Riverside High School, 4250 Hwy. 641 South in Decaturville, under principal Lex Suite and within Decatur County Schools, where Melinda J. Thompson serves as director of schools. That setting matters in a district that also includes Decaturville Elementary School, Parsons Elementary School, Decatur County Middle School and Decatur Virtual School, because Riverside’s senior celebration stood out as one of the clearest public milestones on the spring calendar.

Senior Signing Day also showed how the school frames the end of the year for families. The one-hour window kept the event short and accessible for parents balancing work schedules, transportation and other obligations, while still giving students a chance to be recognized in front of classmates, teachers and administrators. In a county school system, that kind of midday, public gathering turns a simple announcement into a community event.

The RHS gym has become a central venue for the school’s public life, according to the school’s own pages, which show it used for athletics and other school gatherings as well as celebrations.
