Scotts Hill softball celebrates 200th win, record-setting season milestones
Tyler Sowell reached 200 career wins as Scotts Hill softball kept rolling, with Bailey Brewer’s 10 homers and Katie Harper’s 400 strikeouts fueling a season built for the long haul.

Scotts Hill softball’s biggest numbers this spring are not just wins. They are signs of a program that has been built from the ground up, with Tyler Sowell collecting his 200th career coaching victory in a 5-0 win over Perry County on Wednesday, April 8, and the Lady Lions backing it up with a 3-0 second game that day.
The milestone victory was as complete as the score suggests. Scotts Hill scored all five runs in the fifth inning and allowed only one hit, then added another shutout in the nightcap. Earlier that week, the Lady Lions opened with a 17-1 win over Madison Academic on Monday, April 6, and local coverage said Scotts Hill won three of four games during the stretch. MaxPreps also listed a 15-0 win over Lake County on March 21, showing the run was already deep into the spring before the Perry County doubleheader.

The season has also become a showcase for individual production. Katie Harper reached 400 career strikeouts, giving the staff a frontline arm to match the lineup’s power. Bailey Brewer set the school’s single-season home run record with 10 and even launched three home runs in a game against Jackson Christian. With the Lady Lions sitting at 4-0 in district play and only six home runs away from tying the single-season team record, the offense has had the kind of balance that turns a good team into a dangerous one.
Sowell’s 200th win also fits into a longer Scotts Hill story. The school’s live-feed history says the field once had simple flag markers in the outfield before evolving into one of the premier AA softball facilities, a transformation credited not only to coaching but also to community business partnerships and parent support. The program now plays both junior varsity and varsity schedules across a 34-game regular season, with Greg McClain, Chloe Allen and Austin listed as assistant coaches.
That foundation helped carry Scotts Hill through last year’s postseason surge, too. In May 2025, the Lady Lions won the district championship and Sowell was named the 13-AA coach of the year. Earlier reports called him the 2017 All-West Tennessee Softball Coach of the Year and noted that he returned to the Scotts Hill job after stepping aside for one season. With the team preparing for the Alabama Bash in Florence, Alabama, the latest milestones suggest the program’s ceiling is still rising, and the next wave of players has a winning standard to follow.
