SR-100 Shoulder Work to Close Lane in Decatur County Jan 5-12
The Tennessee Department of Transportation scheduled shoulder stabilization work on SR-100 in Decatur County beginning Monday, January 5, creating a lane closure controlled by a temporary traffic signal through January 12. The closure may affect morning and evening commutes, school routes, and local deliveries, so residents should expect intermittent stops and allow extra travel time.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation is set to impose a lane closure on SR-100 between Hughes Road and Mt. Zion Road at LM 1.3 to allow crews to stabilize the highway shoulder. Work is scheduled to begin Monday, January 5 at 8:00 a.m. and continue through Monday, January 12 at 6:00 p.m. Traffic will be regulated by a temporary traffic signal during the operation.
The timing follows TDOT’s holiday suspension of lane closure activities, which halted work on interstates and state highways from late December through January 2 to ease Christmas and New Year travel. With the holiday period over, crews in Region 4 have resumed repairs and new installations as needed across the 21 counties the region covers.
A second Decatur County listing appears for SR-100 between Cooper Branch Road and Tillman Road at LM 5.1. The regional advisory includes that location among other project listings, though no specific dates or times for that segment were published in the advisory provided to local officials.
For local drivers, the SR-100 lane closure means periodic stops controlled by the temporary signal rather than flaggers or alternating one-way traffic. Motorists should plan for short delays, particularly during peak commuting hours and school drop-off and pick-up times. Emergency vehicles, school buses and commercial deliveries that use SR-100 may experience minor hold-ups while crews complete the shoulder stabilization work.
The stabilization work is intended to restore and protect the roadway edge and reduce the risk of further shoulder deterioration that can create safety hazards and longer-term closures. Residents who use SR-100 regularly are advised to leave earlier for appointments and to obey temporary traffic controls for the safety of workers and other drivers.
Region 4 crews may also implement daytime or nighttime lane closures elsewhere in the 21 counties on an as-needed basis for repairs or installations. Decatur County drivers should remain attentive to changing traffic patterns and posted signals while the stabilization project on SR-100 proceeds through January 12.
