The Tennessee Department of Transportation announced on December 18 that construction crews will suspend all lane closure activity on interstates and state highways for the Christmas and New Year travel period. The suspension will take effect at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, and will end at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, January 2, 2026. The pause aims to reduce delays for holiday travelers and local commuters heading to family gatherings and seasonal events.

Outside the holiday window, Region 4 crews will continue maintenance and repair work as needed, and daytime or nighttime lane closures may occur at various locations across the 21 counties served by the region. For Decatur County, TDOT scheduled two specific shoulder stabilization projects on State Route 100. The first is set between Hughes Road and Mt. Zion Road at LM 1.3 and will run from January 5 at 8:00 a.m. through January 12 at 6:00 p.m. Traffic during that period will be controlled by a temporary traffic signal while crews stabilize the roadway shoulder.

The second Decatur County project is scheduled between Cooper Branch Road and Tillman Road at LM 5.1 and will run from January 12 at 8:00 a.m. through January 23 at 6:00 p.m. That work will also use a temporary traffic signal to manage lane closures while shoulder repairs are completed. Travelers should expect alternating lane closures and should allow extra time when passing through the work zones.

The local impact will be most acute for regular commuters, school bus routes, and agricultural traffic that uses State Route 100. Temporary signals mean drivers should be prepared to stop and proceed under flagger or signal control, which can create short delays but enhances worker and motorist safety. With holiday travel reduced by the suspension of closures, residents can plan trips without scheduled construction interruptions between December 23 and January 2.

Motorists are encouraged to check TDOT SmartWay and other traveler information tools for the latest updates on lane closures and project timing before traveling. Local officials say coordination will continue between state crews and county authorities to minimize disruption and keep roads safe during the repair work.
