Roughly 4,300 Clearnetworx customers lost internet access Monday afternoon after a failure on the provider's FastTrack circuit swept through four Southwest Colorado cities at once, cutting service to homes and businesses across Durango, Cortez, Farmington and Pagosa Springs for about three and a half hours.

Clearnetworx spokeswoman Sara McCombs said the outage was first reported around 3:30 p.m. in the Durango and Farmington service areas. Reports of lost connectivity then arrived from Cortez and Pagosa Springs, confirming the fault had spread across a wide corridor of the company's regional network.

Cortez drew particular attention given its role as the commercial center for Dolores County. Most county residents travel to Cortez for banking, healthcare appointments and retail, and businesses there that depend on Clearnetworx for payment systems and scheduling faced an abrupt mid-afternoon shutdown with no immediate timeline for restoration.

The scope of the disruption, spanning cities across three counties and into the New Mexico border region, reflected the degree to which Clearnetworx has become embedded in Southwest Colorado's connectivity infrastructure. The Montrose-based company has positioned itself as the Western Slope's locally owned fiber alternative, having built out gigabit service across the region since 2013.

The outage resolved after roughly three and a half hours, restoring service to all four cities before evening. No cause beyond the FastTrack circuit failure was publicly identified.
