Dolores County schools highlight teacher appreciation, busy May calendar
Ty Gray’s district used its front page to thank staff and map a packed May schedule, from track meets and FFA banquet to elementary community night.

Superintendent Ty Gray’s Dolores County School District RE-2J kept the focus on the people holding Dove Creek schools together this spring, using its May 4 homepage update to highlight Teacher Appreciation and a Dove Creek Schools Weekly Update at the same time. That front page is doing more than sending out a note of thanks. It is also the district’s main communication hub, with quick links for Parents/Students, Staff Directory, Financial Transparency, Athletics, Nurse and Lunch Menu, the kind of central page rural families rely on when the calendar fills up fast.
The schedule posted there shows how crowded the last stretch of the school year has become. Spring Pep Rally/Track/Baseball Parent’s Night was listed for May 5, followed by high school track at Grand Junction on May 6, the Chapter FFA Banquet in the DCHS Commons on May 7, high school track at Montrose on May 9 and Dove Creek Elementary Community Night on May 11. For families balancing rides, meals, after-school plans and field trips, those dates matter as much as the celebration itself. Athletics, FFA and elementary programming are all moving at once, and the district’s calendar is the place where that overlap becomes manageable.
That practical calendar sits beside the district’s larger message about what the schools are trying to do. Dolores County School District RE-2J says it envisions every student thinking, learning, achieving and caring. In a small district that serves Dove Creek and the surrounding county, the phrase reads less like a slogan than a reminder of the people making spring work: teachers in classrooms, coaches at track meets, advisers preparing students for FFA recognition and staff lining up the next school event while the year winds down.

The district’s homepage also lists 813 North Main Street, PO Box 459, Dove Creek, CO 81324, and the main phone number, 970-677-2522, reinforcing how central the school office remains for local families. Its public financial documents, including a June 30, 2025 audited financial statement and 2025-26 salary schedules, add another layer of transparency behind the spring notices. As May moves on, the district’s message is clear: appreciation, scheduling and daily operations are all part of the same job, and in Dove Creek, the schools are carrying that load in public.
