Castle Pines cleared the way for another major makeover of its main east-west corridor, approving the westbound Castle Pines Parkway rebuild and a new Monarch Boulevard and Buffalo Trail roundabout monument as part of a road program the city says is now its largest transportation investment in history.

At its April 28 meeting, the Castle Pines City Council approved a construction contract with HEI Civil Shared Services, LLC for reconstruction of westbound Castle Pines Parkway between Monarch Boulevard and Forest Park Drive. Council also approved an intergovernmental agreement with the Castle Pines North Metropolitan District tied to the work, including replacement of water line infrastructure, and a separate contract with Nicholas Construction, Inc. for the roundabout monument.

The city says construction is expected to begin in June 2026 and wrap up in fall 2026. During the project, both westbound and eastbound traffic will be shifted onto the eastbound lanes of Castle Pines Parkway. Crews are expected to finish the stretch from Monarch Boulevard past Timber Trail Elementary during the summer to limit disruption during the school year.

The rebuild is the latest phase of the city’s Road Solutions program, which was funded by a one-percent sales and use tax approved by voters in November 2023. City materials say the goal is to keep advancing roadway repairs through partnerships with Douglas County, the Denver Regional Council of Governments, the Colorado Department of Transportation and federal grants. In the city’s 2026 budget, nearly $16 million in capital improvements were approved for transportation, which the city described as the largest single-year transportation investment in its history.

The work follows a string of earlier corridor projects. Castle Pines says it reconstructed Castle Pines Parkway between Monarch Boulevard and Village Square Drive in 2021 and 2022, finished eastbound Castle Pines Parkway from Forest Park Drive to Monarch Boulevard in 2025, and completed the Monarch Boulevard roundabout at Buffalo Trail that same year. The new westbound rebuild also includes diamond grinding from Forest Park Drive to Buffalo Trail to improve drivability, suggesting the city is trying to extend the life of the corridor while easing the rough pavement drivers have already been navigating in phases.

The roundabout monument at Monarch and Buffalo Trail is another visible piece of that strategy. A September 2025 agreement with Douglas County put the project at about $1.2 million, with the county contributing $600,000. Nicholas Construction previously held the city’s East Gateway Monument project, a $378,090.97 contract completed in 2025.
