County Line Road to close for major reconstruction starting January 6
Officials announced on December 29 that County Line Road between Clarkson Street and the U Haul business access will close in both directions beginning January 6 for approximately 100 days. The concentrated work window is part of a broader $30 million widening and reconstruction effort that aims to address a roadway dip, improve drainage and add lanes and sidewalks, changes that will affect daily travel and nearby businesses.

On December 29 local officials unveiled a temporary but significant closure of County Line Road as part of a larger corridor reconstruction. Beginning January 6 crews will fully close the segment between Clarkson Street and the U Haul business access for roughly 100 days. The closure is a focused construction window required for major earthwork, including importing, moving and placing large amounts of dirt at Lee Gulch to remove a longstanding roadway dip and to improve drainage, sightlines and safety.
The work is one piece of a roughly $30 million project to widen and reconstruct County Line Road across multiple jurisdictions. Douglas County is coordinating with the cities of Littleton and Centennial to add a travel lane between Broadway and University Boulevard, to install a new traffic signal at Clarkson, to construct sidewalks and to relocate water lines that run under the roadway. Officials described the 100 day closure as a concentrated period for fill operations that cannot be completed under partial traffic conditions without compromising safety and efficiency.
For residents and businesses in the immediate corridor the closure will alter normal patterns of movement. Motorists should anticipate longer commutes and plan alternate routes for work trips, school runs and errands. Businesses that rely on frontage access near the closure, including the U Haul location, will face operational impacts while construction is underway. Emergency service planners and public agencies will need to adapt routes and response plans during the closure window.
The County Line Road improvements will be carried out in stages, with the final completion of the larger corridor scheduled for 2027. The phased approach aims to balance ongoing traffic flow on adjacent sections with the need to complete extensive utility relocation and roadway work. The project reflects a regional investment in mobility and safety that is expected to reduce flood related damage, improve pedestrian access and increase traffic capacity along a busy cross county corridor.
Drivers and local residents are advised to follow updates from Douglas County and partner cities for detour maps, timing adjustments and construction notices as work proceeds. The concentrated fill operations beginning January 6 will be disruptive in the short term, but officials say the outcome will provide a safer, more resilient roadway for the Douglas County communities that depend on this corridor.
