Crash closes I-25 near Castle Rock, no reopening time yet

Northbound I-25 near milepost 181 at Plum Creek Parkway was closed for a crash investigation, and Colorado State Patrol said there was no ETA for reopening. Drivers were told to use alternate routes as the shutdown hit one of Douglas County’s busiest Castle Rock bottlenecks.

The closure affected traffic near the Plum Creek Parkway exit and the stretch of I-25 that carries commuters through south Castle Rock. Another crash on the same corridor forced the interstate to close in both directions between Plum Creek Parkway and Tomah Road, and no serious injuries were reported in that earlier incident.

In a separate Douglas County response, troopers were sent to I-25 south of Castle Rock at about 4:32 a.m. Wednesday after a crash involving a Ram pickup truck and a semi blocked the northbound lanes. Traffic reopened later that morning, showing how quickly one wreck can stop northbound travel through this part of the county.

The corridor is already under pressure from major transportation work. The Town of Castle Rock says construction of a new interchange at Interstate 25 and Crystal Valley Parkway is a top transportation priority, intended to improve safety and mobility in the surrounding community and create a regional link from I-25 to southern Castle Rock and Douglas County.
