Douglas County Public Works has relocated its slash-mulch and green yard waste drop-off site to 5675 Delva Way in Sedalia for the 2026 season, retiring the previous Castle Rock location and opening the new site beginning Friday, April 3.

The site will be open April 3 and April 4 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. For the first two weekends, Douglas County Public Works will keep the site accessible both Friday and Saturday to handle anticipated opening-season demand. After those initial two weekends, operations shift to a Saturday-only schedule running through Oct. 31. County staff will be on-site directing traffic, and message boards will guide residents navigating the new address for the first time. Residents hoping to avoid longer lines are encouraged to visit on Friday, April 3, or Friday, April 10.

The program's return comes on the heels of a strong 2025 season: Douglas County converted 32,841 cubic yards of tree limbs and yard debris into mulch, a volume roughly equivalent to 10 Olympic-sized swimming pools.

The Sedalia site carries significance beyond this season's operations. Douglas County has identified the location as the future home of a consolidated waste disposal hub, intended to eventually combine slash-mulch, green yard waste, electronics recycling, hazardous household waste disposal, and Douglas County's upcoming biochar facility in a single stop for residents.

Residents dropping off materials should also be aware of current fire restrictions. By order of Sheriff Darren Weekly, Stage 1 Fire Restrictions are in place for unincorporated areas of Douglas County under Ordinance No. O-012-004, which restricts open fires, open burning, and the use of fireworks in those areas.

Additional details are available on Douglas County's Slash-Mulch webpage.
