Mass Street Plant Co. opens in former Jungle House downtown location
Mass Street Plant Co. will bring houseplants, gifts and a 20-seat craft cafe to 6 E. 7th St., filling the former Jungle House space downtown.

Downtown Lawrence is getting a new plant shop that its owners say is meant to do more than sell greenery. Mass Street Plant Co. will open at 6 E. 7th St. in the former Jungle House space, adding houseplants, locally made goods and thoughtful gifts to one of the city’s busiest pedestrian corridors.
The new Lawrence shop is a sister location to West Bottoms Plant Company in Kansas City’s West Bottoms. Owners plan a soft opening on May 2, 2026, with a grand opening in June. Inside, the store will also include a smaller-format ADHDIY Craft Cafe with seating for about 20 guests, a setup that could give downtown another place for people to linger instead of just pass through.
That matters on Massachusetts Street, where the historic commercial district stretches between 6th Street and South Park Street and remains central to downtown’s retail identity. A plant shop with a café component fits the mix of walkable storefronts, independent businesses and destination stops that keep foot traffic moving through the corridor.
The move follows the closure of Jungle House on March 31, 2026, after nearly a decade in business. Jhami and Rachel Guffey also closed Squishington’s Candy that same day. Their plant store had long been a fixture in downtown Lawrence, and the new owners say they want to carry forward the welcoming, community-focused feel that Jungle House built in the space.

Austin Mosier, a co-owner of West Bottoms Plant Company, said the expansion is meant to create a place where people feel welcome, inspired and connected while continuing to support local artists and makers. Josh Ricley, a longtime Jungle House employee, is helping develop the Lawrence shop and is working closely with the former owners as the space is reimagined.
For downtown, the opening adds another independently owned retail draw to a block where small businesses matter as much for atmosphere as for sales. Plants, gifts and a craft cafe are the kind of mix that can keep shoppers in the district longer, add life to the sidewalk and give Mass Street another reason to pull people past the front door instead of around it.
