Route 460 to close for culvert replacement near E 2000 Road

Route 460, the rural stretch of N 700 Road between E 2000 Road and E 2100 Road, will close beginning Monday, June 29, for a culvert replacement that is expected to last about three months. Douglas County says access will be maintained for nearby properties, but through traffic on that segment will be blocked while crews work.

The project will replace an aging structure and lengthen the culvert to improve roadside safety. It also adds another round of drainage work to a corridor that has needed attention before. In July 2019, Douglas County closed a portion of Route 460 at Vinland for two culvert replacements, one just east of the Vinland airport runway and another between E 1719 Road and E 1725 Road.

Douglas County Public Works oversees a network that includes 224 miles of county roads, 158 bridges and 1,100 culverts. Its annual culvert replacement plan typically replaces four to six culverts each year using precast concrete sections, and in some cases crews use three-sided structures to restore aquatic habitat.

The Route 460 job is listed in the county’s 2026 Capital Improvement Plan as a Route 460 Culvert Replacement project with a 2026 total cost of $255,000. Public Works updates planned road projects during the normal work week through its road-closure map, which gives drivers a running look at closures as work moves across the county.

For residents and farm traffic in the area, the immediate impact is straightforward: the road will be closed at the work zone, nearby property access will remain open, and the county expects the closure to last the summer if weather cooperates. The Route 460 project fits into a broader pattern of rural road and drainage maintenance across Douglas County, where aging culverts are being replaced one by one before they become larger safety problems.
