The Dubois County Clerk announced on December 22 that candidate filing for the 2026 Primary Election will open January 7 and close at noon on February 6. The Dubois County Clerk’s Office announced on December 22 that the candidate filing period for the 2026 Primary Election will open on Wednesday, January 7, 2026 and close at 12 00 noon local time on Friday, February 6, 2026. Individuals who wish to run must file a Declaration of Candidacy form CAN 2 with the Clerk’s Office during that window to appear on the primary ballot.
Forms will be available at the Dubois County Clerk’s Office in the Dubois County Courthouse at One Courthouse Square in Jasper, and can also be accessed online through the Indiana Election Division at in.gov/sos/elections. The Clerk’s Office provided a local contact number for questions about filing requirements and deadlines at 812 481 7035 and advised candidates to consult duboiscountyin.gov/clerk for additional information.
Local offices available for filing include county positions such as Circuit Court Judge, Prosecutor, County Clerk, Auditor, Recorder, Sheriff, Commissioner District 2, and County Council seats in districts 1, 2, 3 and 4. Township offices are open in Bainbridge, Boones, Cass, Columbia, Ferdinand, Hall, Harbison, Jackson, Jefferson, Madison, Marion and Patoka townships for Trustees and Board members. Party positions available for filing include Democratic Precinct Committeemen and Republican and Democratic State Convention Delegates.
All candidates must meet statutory eligibility requirements for their chosen offices, including age, residency and voter registration status. The filing period sets the administrative deadline that determines who will be listed on the ballot and who will be eligible to seek party nominations and local office.

“The filing period is the first official step for those seeking to serve their communities through public office,” said Amy Kippenbrock, Dubois County Clerk. “We encourage prospective candidates to file early, review all materials carefully, and ensure that their paperwork is complete before the deadline.”
For Dubois County voters and civic organizations, the filing window is a key moment to assess potential candidates and plan outreach and voter education efforts ahead of the primary. Prospective candidates should contact the Clerk’s Office directly at 812 481 7035 or visit duboiscountyin.gov/clerk for procedural guidance and to obtain the CAN 2 form.
