Jasper announces short-term street closures for sewer lateral repairs

Geiger Street closed between 2nd and 3rd streets from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. June 24 for sewer lateral repair work, and the city also restricted traffic around U.S. 231 and West 1st Street to keep the job moving. The westbound lane between U.S. 231 and Geiger was closed the evening of June 23, then both directions of West 1st Street between Geiger and U.S. 231 were shut during the workday.

Geiger, West 1st Street and U.S. 231 connect neighborhood streets and a major route through Dubois County. Drivers who normally cut through the corridor had to find another path for the day.

The Jasper Utility Service Board has been hearing updates on projects that include the Genevieve Avenue water main replacement, the Leopold Street main replacement nearing completion and the lead service line replacement project. Another utility closure began the same day at 13th Street and Leopold Street, where the City of Jasper Wastewater Department temporarily closed the intersection for about two days, then planned daytime-only closures on Leopold for roughly two more weeks.

Jasper saw a similar sewer-related lane closure earlier in the year, when Love Excavating shut the westbound lane of 6th Street from Geiger Street to U.S. 231 on Jan. 12 from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for sewer lateral replacement work.
