Jasper baseball tops Edgewood 11-1 in Hall of Fame Classic

Jasper did not waste the opening night of the Indiana Baseball Hall of Fame Classic. The Wildcats put away Edgewood 11-1 on Friday at Alvin C. Ruxer Field, using a run-rule win to put a firm stamp on a showcase weekend at Jasper High School.

The game unfolded at 328 W. 10th Street, where Jasper hosted the event as part of a two-day Classic that also included North Posey and Barr-Reeve. Jasper’s athletic calendar listed the Hall of Fame Classic for Friday, May 8, at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday, May 9, at 11 a.m., and Edgewood’s school event listing also placed the boys varsity tournament at Jasper High School.

The result added to a strong stretch for the Wildcats. Jasper had been stacking wins in the days leading into the Classic, including victories over Evansville Central and Castle, and MaxPreps recorded the Edgewood game as an 11-1 final on Friday. In a busy early-May schedule, Jasper kept answering the test in front of it.

For Dubois County baseball fans, the matchup carried more weight than a nonconference game on the calendar. The Hall of Fame Classic brought multiple Indiana schools to one field in Jasper and gave the Wildcats a chance to protect home turf in a marquee setting. Beating Edgewood in convincing fashion also sharpened the sense that Jasper was entering the weekend with momentum instead of simply filling a date.

That mattered for the bigger picture. Jasper’s recent run suggested a team finding its rhythm at the right time, and the 11-1 finish over the Mustangs reinforced that trend in one of the more visible events on the local baseball calendar. With the Classic staged at Jasper High School, the Wildcats made their first impression count and kept their postseason trajectory pointed in a positive direction.
