A Jasper man was arrested after Indiana State Police say a Harley-Davidson motorcycle crashed on rural Kellerville Road near Jasper and the driver left before a trooper arrived, turning a single-vehicle wreck into an OWI case that unfolded in the heart of Dubois County.

Police identified the driver as Andrew Hurst, 29, after a later-arriving vehicle brought a male passenger back to the scene on Thursday, May 14, 2026. Troopers said Hurst had been driving the motorcycle when it went down, and that he had already left the crash site by the time the officer reached the rural road.

According to police, the trooper saw visible signs of impairment before a chemical test was administered. Hurst was then taken into custody and transported to the Dubois County Jail, where he was being held on bond.

The case was handled by Indiana State Police District 34, which is based in Jasper at 2209 Newton Street and covers Dubois County. In Indiana, the offense is charged as operating a vehicle while intoxicated, commonly called OWI or OVWI, and the charge can vary in severity depending on the facts of the arrest, the level of impairment and any prior history.

The arrest also underscores how quickly a crash on one of the county’s rural roads can become a law-enforcement matter with wider public-safety implications. In a place like Jasper, where Indiana State Police District 34 serves as a visible local presence, a motorcycle crash and a suspected intoxicated driver can draw swift attention from troopers, jail staff and residents concerned about roadway safety.

Indiana State Police also manages crash-report services through its Vehicle Crash Reports system and public-records process, which are used to process and retrieve officer-standard crash reports filed with the agency.
