Jasper plans milling and paving on several roads, drivers may see delays

Jasper drivers were slowed by milling and paving work on Grassland Hills Road, Shady Lane and 35th Street, with the tightest work zones centered between 31st and 36th streets, Newton Street and Villa Drive. The Jasper Street Department and Calcar Paving said the roads remained open to local traffic, but motorists should have expected delays as crews moved through the neighborhood.

The June 11 work list included base patch milling on Grassland Hills Road between 31st and 36th Streets, milling on all of Shady Lane, and trim milling on 35th Street between Newton Street and Villa Drive. Asphalt patching and paving were to follow, and the city said the schedule could shift depending on weather conditions.

The notice landed in the middle of a broader paving push. Jasper’s document center also showed a separate milling-and-repaving round scheduled for Monday, June 8 through Friday, June 12, indicating multiple street projects were moving through the city at the same time. The June 11 notice was marked in the city’s records with a June 4, 2026, timestamp at 2:08 p.m.

For residents in the affected blocks, the practical effect was straightforward: slower traffic, more equipment in the roadway and more careful timing for school drop-offs, deliveries and everyday errands. Even without a full closure, work on neighborhood streets can change how easily customers reach nearby homes and businesses, especially when crews are cutting into pavement and leaving lanes rough underfoot.

The city has also posted similar milling-and-repaving notices tied to Calcar Paving in 2024 and 2025, underscoring that this work is part of Jasper’s regular maintenance cycle.
