Jasper water shutoff planned Wednesday for valve replacement work
A small Jasper section was set for a six-hour water shutoff Wednesday as crews replaced a valve from Meridian Road and State Road 164 to 169 E 190 N.

Water service was set to go off in a small section of Jasper from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday for a valve replacement, affecting properties from the intersection of Meridian Road and State Road 164 to 169 E 190 N.
The Jasper Municipal Water Department said the work was weather permitting, and the same notice was posted in the City of Jasper’s document center. The city apologized for the inconvenience and gave residents and nearby businesses a narrow window to plan around the interruption before crews began the repair.
The outage was limited to a clearly defined stretch, with no broader service interruption or boil advisory included in the notice. That makes the work more targeted than an emergency break, but the repair still matters for keeping the system reliable. Replacing a valve can help utility crews control pressure, isolate a problem faster if a line fails, and reduce the chance that a small issue turns into a larger outage later.
For households and businesses inside the affected area, the practical impact was immediate: drinking water, cooking, laundry, food service, and any daytime operation that depends on running water had to be handled around the outage window. The weather-permitting language also signaled that crews can shift utility work if field conditions change.

This was not the first planned valve-related shutoff Jasper has posted. The city scheduled another water outage for Oct. 7, 2025, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for valve replacement work, and a separate April 2025 outage affected 16 customers on Mill Street, from 1702 Mill Street to 1951 Mill Street. Together, those notices show a pattern of targeted maintenance across Jasper rather than a single isolated repair.
Jasper Municipal Utilities operates under the Utility Service Board and provides electric, water, natural gas and wastewater service to the city and, in some cases, surrounding areas. The city said utility emergencies can be reported around the clock at 812-482-9131.
