State Road 64 Closure Planned in Neighboring Crawford County
SR 64 near English closes for up to two days starting April 7, pushing Dubois County drivers 12-15 miles out of their way on the SR 237-I-64-SR 66 detour.

State Road 64 will close for up to two days near English beginning on or around Tuesday, April 7, cutting through traffic on the primary surface corridor connecting Dubois County to Crawford County and the communities beyond.
The Indiana Department of Transportation announced the closure will occur near the intersection of SR 64 and State Road 237, just outside English, to allow for a pipe replacement project. Through traffic must use the official detour: south on SR 237 to Interstate 64, then east or west along the interstate to State Road 66. Local drivers will retain access up to the point of closure.
For eastbound travelers leaving Huntingburg or Jasper, that loop adds an estimated 12 to 15 miles and roughly 15 to 20 minutes compared to the direct route through English. The return westbound run carries the same added distance. INDOT projects the work at approximately two days, putting an estimated reopening around Thursday, April 9, weather permitting.
State Road 64 functions as the main two-lane highway through southern Dubois and Crawford counties, running parallel to I-64 and approximately 10 miles north of it for much of its 107-mile length across southern Indiana. The route is used by delivery drivers and tradespeople moving between Huntingburg-area businesses and Crawford County, day-trippers headed to Marengo Cave near Marengo and Harrison-Crawford State Forest near Leavenworth, and commuters who rely on the two-lane road as their daily east-west run.
Travelers with any schedule flexibility should consider using Interstate 64 for the full duration of the closure rather than diverting through the work zone at the SR 237 intersection. Anyone approaching SR 64 from the west, particularly from Jasper or Huntingburg, will reach the southbound SR 237 junction well before English; pressing past that point risks arriving at the closure with no easy turnaround.
INDOT reminds all drivers to reduce speed, eliminate distractions, and give extra clearance to equipment operators when passing through active work zones.
