Forsyth Elections Board Calls Special Meeting Ahead of May Primary
Mandi Smith posted a three-day notice Friday for a special elections board meeting this morning, with no agenda items listed just 50 days before Forsyth's May 19 primary.

With the May 19 General Primary less than 50 days out, Mandi Smith, director of Forsyth County's Voter Registrations & Elections Department, posted a public notice Friday calling the county's election board into a special session this morning at 8:30 a.m.
The Forsyth County Board of Voter Registrations & Elections gathered at its offices at 1201 Sawnee Drive in Cumming for the meeting, which Smith's notice described as covering "discussion and consideration of the items as outlined on the agenda and such other business as may properly come before the Board." The notice, created March 27, offered no further detail about the specific items on the agenda.
Special called meetings of county election boards typically arise in the compressed weeks before a major election, when boards must act on time-sensitive matters: equipment certification, early voting logistics, poll worker assignments, or precinct-level changes that require formal board approval. Forsyth's May 19 election, which combines the General Primary with the Nonpartisan General Election, creates a tight preparation window for the department.
The three-day gap between the notice posting and the meeting reflects standard practice for special called sessions, which carry shorter notice requirements than regular scheduled meetings. The county posted the notice through its official public notices page.

Smith's notice also included the county's Title VI statement, instructing anyone needing language or disability accommodations to contact the Title VI Coordinator at least 48 hours before any future session. Members of the public were welcome to attend this morning's meeting.
For anyone tracking what the board acted on, the county's elections office at 1201 Sawnee Drive is the primary contact, with meeting agendas and minutes typically published on the county's meetings calendar. Voters have until April 20 to register for the May 19 primary.
