An armed suspect robbed the PNC Bank in northwest Fresno and ran off on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash, adding another jolt of concern to a city already watching a string of robbery cases.

Fresno police were called to the bank near Shaw and Palm avenues around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 21, 2026, after a silent, or trip, alarm signaled a possible robbery in progress. Officers said a lone suspect entered the branch, pulled a firearm and demanded money from tellers before leaving with cash. The bank sits next to KMJ/Radio City at Palm and West Shaw.

Investigators were still working to determine exactly how much money was taken, Fresno police Lt. Alfonso Castillo said. No suspect description had been released, and police had not said whether surveillance video captured the suspect’s face, clothing or getaway route. The lack of details left the investigation focused on the basics: who entered the bank, how much cash was taken and where the suspect went after leaving the building.

The robbery stood out not only because it happened in broad daylight at a busy northwest Fresno intersection, but because it came amid growing attention to bank crime and robbery patterns in the Fresno area. Recent local coverage has tracked a number of bank and robbery incidents across the region, sharpening questions about how often these crimes are happening and what nearby businesses are doing to respond.

Banks and small businesses around Shaw, Palm and the surrounding corridor will be watching the case closely. Even when a robbery ends quickly, the effect can linger in how employees handle alarms, surveillance systems and cash exposure, especially in commercial areas where one incident can reset security routines for weeks.

The FBI has had a primary role in bank robbery investigations since the 1930s and now works these cases with local law enforcement, especially when a robbery turns violent or appears connected to a pattern. The bureau also maintains annual bank crime reports and statistics dating to 2003, a reminder that even a single Fresno robbery sits within a long-running national law-enforcement focus on bank theft.
