Arts Annex Fresno opens in Tower District for local artists
Arts Annex Fresno opened across from Tower Theatre with more than 20 local artists, and every sale goes straight to the artist.

Arts Annex Fresno has opened at 814 E. Olive Avenue, directly across from the Tower Theatre, with a business model built to keep local art local: the artists who hang work there keep 100% of the sales.
The Tower District gallery held its grand opening celebration Saturday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., bringing live music, food and a room full of paintings, mixed media, jewelry, textiles and sculpture from more than 20 Fresno-area artists. The space had already had a soft opening in early February, but the grand opening marked its debut as a permanent arts destination in one of Fresno’s most visible neighborhoods.
The owners, John Alden and Debi Ruud, are longtime artists and arts educators who also run Fresno Music Academy & Arts. Their new gallery is designed as more than a wall-rental space. Arts Annex says it gives local artists affordable display space, lets them sell directly to the public and keeps the proceeds in the artists’ hands.

That pitch lands in a district already defined by creative traffic. Visit Fresno County describes the Tower Theatre, at 815 E. Olive Avenue, as anchoring Fresno’s most artistic neighborhood, and county tourism materials point to the Tower District and Downtown Fresno as home to a large concentration of galleries. ArtHop, the first-Thursday art crawl that draws visitors through the area, gives the corridor a built-in audience for a venue like Arts Annex Fresno.
Inside, the gallery mixes painters, photographers, jewelers, textile and fabric artists and sculptors, turning the space into both a retail stop and a showcase for Fresno makers. Arts Annex also says it will offer children’s classes through Art Fundamentals, extending its role beyond sales into arts education.

For the Tower District, the opening adds a new node to an already established arts economy. For local artists, it adds another place to be seen, another place to sell and another rare storefront where Fresno talent is centered instead of filtered through outside programming.
