Caltrans kicked off four days of landscaping and pavement work along Highway 180 in the Fresno area Monday, closing the westbound park-and-ride at McCall Avenue and imposing two-way traffic controls at multiple stretches of the highway through Thursday, March 12.

The McCall Avenue park-and-ride closure ran from 8:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Monday, March 9, as crews completed landscaping operations at the facility. Separately, the northbound Highway 99 on-ramp at Olive Avenue also shut down Monday for landscaping, with that closure running slightly later, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., according to Caltrans announcements via Facebook.

Pavement repairs shifted the focus to a different segment of Highway 180 on Tuesday, March 10, where two-way traffic control went into effect between the Friant Canal and Alta Avenue from 8:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. The same 8:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. window applies Wednesday and Thursday, though the work zone moves slightly west on those days, running from just east of Frankwood Avenue to just east of the Friant Canal.

Caltrans told commuters to "obey flagging personnel and pay close attention to road construction vehicles and personnel" and urged drivers to "take extra care and allow for additional travel time" throughout the work zone. The agency said via Facebook that "motorists should plan accordingly."

All operations are weather permitting. Caltrans cautioned that "closures may continue for longer periods of time due to delays caused by weather or uncontrollable events that may occur during maintenance," leaving open the possibility that any given day's restrictions could stretch beyond the published end times.

GV Wire also reported that Caltrans crews planned two days of one-way traffic paving operations on Highway 180 near Hume Lake, though that detail did not appear in Fresno Bee reporting on the same advisory and it remains unclear whether the Hume Lake work is part of the same maintenance campaign or a separate Caltrans project.

Drivers passing through any of the active zones this week are advised to slow down and heed flagger instructions, following the agency's standing reminder to "Slow for the Cone Zone.
