CHP-Led Weekend Street-Racing Crackdown Nets Nine DUI Arrests in Fresno County
CHP Fresno says a multi-agency weekend operation produced nine DUI arrests, 172 traffic stops, 128 citations and 33 vehicle impounds across Fresno County.

The California Highway Patrol said a multi-agency weekend street-racing and DUI saturation operation in Fresno County resulted in nine DUI arrests, 172 traffic stops, 128 citations and 33 vehicles impounded, with two additional vehicles placed in storage. CHP Fresno provided the enforcement totals and identified the effort as a Rapid Arrest of Intoxicated Drivers (RAID) operation funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety.
CHP Fresno said the RAID team worked alongside the Fresno Police Department and the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, with support from CHP Central Division and RAID personnel drawn from CHP offices "stretching from Bakersfield to Modesto." The agency said officers used coordinated ground and air support during the operation and that many participating officers are Drug Recognition Experts (DREs) trained to identify impairment when alcohol is not a factor.
Beyond the nine DUI arrests, CHP reported two reckless driving arrests, one drug arrest and one misdemeanor no-bail arrest. Officers issued 128 citations, including four citations for modified equipment violations, gave six verbal warnings and impounded 33 vehicles as part of the enforcement. CHP Fresno said its officers "disrupted planned street racing events before they could take place."
CHP’s social post underscored the RAID team’s composition and prosecutorial partnership: "This elite RAID team is made up of some of the hardest-working officers from CHP offices stretching from Bakersfield to Modesto. Many are Drug Recognition Experts (DREs) specially trained to identify drivers impaired by drugs, even when alcohol is not a factor. We’re proud to partner with the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office, who work closely with us to hold impaired drivers accountable and keep our roadways safe." The agency’s video of the operation drew wide attention online, showing 193.4K views on CHP’s social post.
The CHP framed the weekend action within Super Bowl safety messaging, urging practical alternatives to impaired driving. "Super Bowl weekend is all about good food, great friends, and cheering for your team, but impaired driving is never a winning move. Planning ahead for a safe ride home is how everyone wins," the agency posted, and recommended steps such as booking a rideshare, handing over the keys before kickoff, calling a friend or family member, or staying the night if needed.

CHP said similar enforcement operations will continue throughout the year and emphasized partnership with the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office in prosecuting impaired drivers. The agency has not released specific dates, street-level locations, or the names and booking details of those arrested; those items were not included in CHP’s public post or the agency’s enforcement summary. The operation’s funding from the California Office of Traffic Safety and the multi-jurisdictional RAID deployment highlight an ongoing statewide push to disrupt street racing and remove impaired drivers from Fresno County roadways. "Every impaired driver removed from the road is one potential tragedy prevented. We remain committed to getting them off the streets before they cause injury or death.
