Clovis Launches Yearlong Celebration to Mark America's 250th Anniversary

Mayor Vong Mouanoutoua and Clovis Veterans Memorial District leader Lorenzo Rios unveiled plans March 26 to spread America's 250th birthday celebration across five major city events through the end of 2026, positioning Clovis as a regional hub for patriotic civic programming rather than a single-day spectacle.

Instead of staging one signature event, the city will weave anniversary themes into Clovis Trail Fest in May, Freedom Fest, Flag Day observances, the Memorial Run and Clovis Night Out, expanding each to carry the weight of the national milestone. That approach lowers financial exposure while tapping operational networks already built around those festivals, city officials said.

"As our nation reaches its 250th birthday, Clovis is rising to this historic milestone with unifying intention and purpose," Mouanoutoua said at the Thursday news conference.

The announcement carried a second milestone worth noting: 2026 also marks the 80th anniversary of the Clovis Veterans Memorial District. Rios, who leads the district and is currently running for Congress, framed the dual observance as an opportunity to amplify messages about service, civic duty and constitutional values. That pairing gives the yearlong calendar a veteran-focused lens that straight anniversary programming typically lacks, and the district's eight decades of institutional credibility anchors events that might otherwise read as purely ceremonial.

The Fresno City & County Historical Society, local chambers of commerce and Clovis-area schools are named as core delivery partners, meaning classrooms and civic organizations will receive structured educational components alongside the public-facing festivals. City leaders described the goal in explicitly intergenerational terms: an experience children and grandchildren will recall as a formative civic memory.

Coordination extends beyond city limits, drawing in Fresno-area partners to build regional attendance across the full calendar year. Because events are distributed rather than concentrated, economic benefits from tourism, vendor participation and volunteer engagement will ripple across multiple months rather than peak and vanish after a single weekend.

Officials said detailed event schedules, volunteer sign-up information and vendor participation guidelines will be released in coming weeks as the city finalizes logistics and budgets with its nonprofit and civic partners.
