Clovis parking-lot crash injures girl, driver arrested after reckless call

A girl was hospitalized and a driver was arrested after a car packed with five people struck a wall in the Tractor Supply parking lot behind Herndon and Fowler avenues, turning a reckless-vehicle complaint into a child-injury case in a busy Clovis shopping area.

Clovis police said officers were called just after 2 p.m. Sunday to the lot behind Tractor Supply after reports of a reckless vehicle. When they arrived, they found the car had crashed into a wall and that children were inside. Police said one young girl lost consciousness after the crash and was taken to the hospital.

ABC30 Fresno reported that five people were in the vehicle at the time of the collision, including children. Action News identified the injured child as a girl and said the crash left her badly enough hurt to require hospitalization. The driver was taken into custody at the scene, according to the reports.

Investigators said DUI was not suspected at the time and the driver’s charges were still pending. Police did not say whether the arrest stemmed directly from the driving complaint, the crash itself, or both, but the sequence of events made clear that officers were already concerned before the wall impact happened.

The crash site sits in one of Clovis’ busiest retail corridors, where weekend traffic, shoppers and families move through the Herndon and Fowler area throughout the afternoon. A parking lot behind a major store like Tractor Supply can seem routine until a vehicle is driven recklessly through it. In this case, the danger landed on children in the car and forced a hospital trip for a young girl who briefly lost consciousness.
