Downtown Fresno gears up for Cinco de Mayo crawl, Tequila Fest weekend
Downtown Fresno packed 18 bars into its first Cinco de Mayo crawl, then shifted the crowd to Chukchansi Park for Tequila Fest and its tequila tastings.

Downtown Fresno started its Cinco de Mayo stretch on Van Ness Avenue, where the first-ever crawl launched from On A Roll Sushi Mexican Japanese Bar at 1306 Van Ness Avenue and spread across more than 10 downtown venues. The Downtown Fresno Partnership said the event used wristbands for no-cover entry, drink specials and VIP or express lines at select stops, with 18 bars taking part, including Moses McQueen's.
The next night, Chukchansi Park became the center of the weekend. Tequila Fest was billed at the ballpark as the Central Valley’s largest celebration of tequila, with music, vendors and a Tequila Tastery featuring dozens of tequila expressions. The lineup brought in Nelly, Elvis Crespo and Twista, along with local DJs and host DJ Kay Rich. The festival also offered premium options, including the Agave Club presented by Papi's Mex Grill and VIP tickets that included 10 tequila tastings.
The city and state also pushed transportation and enforcement to keep the drinking-heavy weekend from turning into a traffic problem. FresnoHOP, the free trolley that links the Brewery District, Cultural Arts District, Tower District, Fresno City College and Campus Pointe, ran with added stops to make it easier for people to move between nightlife spots without driving. California Highway Patrol Officer Mike Salas said extra officers would be on the road and working with local agencies to stop impaired drivers before they could cause harm.

For downtown bars, restaurants and vendors, the payoff went beyond one night of sales. The crawl funneled customers into a cluster of downtown spots, while Tequila Fest pulled even more traffic to Chukchansi Park and the blocks around it, giving nearby kitchens, patios and vendors a concentrated rush of business. With Moses McQueen's among the participating bars and a festival lineup built around recognizable names, the weekend gave downtown Fresno one of its busiest spring stretches and a clear test of whether event-driven nightlife can keep becoming a real economic engine for the city center.
