A car plowed into the Panera Bread at West Shaw Avenue and Marty Avenue in northwest Fresno on Thursday morning after an elderly woman mistook the gas pedal for the brake while pulling into a parking space, police said. No one was hurt.

The crash happened around 9 a.m. Thursday at the Panera Bread location on Shaw and Marty. Police say an elderly woman was parking on the east side of the building when she accidentally stepped on the gas instead of the brake and crashed into the restaurant.

No one was injured. The absence of casualties was fortunate: the Shaw and Marty Panera is a busy northwest Fresno location, and a 9 a.m. Thursday arrival typically falls within the restaurant's morning rush.

The Panera location is only doing to-go orders as crews work to address the damage from the collision. The restaurant is located at 3590 W. Shaw Ave., at the corner of Shaw Avenue and Marty Avenue.

Police responded to the scene along with cleanup crews. No information on citations or charges against the driver has been released, and the extent of structural damage to the building has not been assessed publicly. It remains unclear when the location will resume normal dine-in service.
