Fresno Police Chief Mindy Casto confirmed Monday that the man shot and killed outside a party in downtown Fresno on Friday night was 38-year-old Meharie Kidane. His death was one of several violent incidents that drove Fresno law enforcement agencies to issue public appeals for witness information over a span of days that stretched the department's homicide detectives across multiple active investigations simultaneously.

Officers from the Southwest Policing District responded around 11:16 p.m. to the area of Fulton and Inyo streets, where they found Kidane suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to a hospital by EMS but was pronounced dead shortly afterward. Detectives said several people had gathered at the venue and were escorted outside following an altercation. Sun Stereo Warehouse, located in Fresno's Downtown Brewery District, is a renovated 1913 building that operates as a mixed-use entrepreneurial hub. No suspect information has been released in Kidane's killing.

Three days before the Fulton Street homicide, Perry Paul Espinosa, 38, was fatally shot Thursday evening in Fresno's Southwest Policing District. Officers responded around 10:02 p.m. to the area of Samson Avenue and Martin Luther King Boulevard, where they found Espinosa suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite life-saving efforts by officers, he died at the scene. Homicide detectives said the shooting followed a disturbance involving multiple individuals. His wife, Cortazya McClendon, told reporters the family lives in Texas, and Espinosa had been visiting family in Fresno to discuss plans to renovate his grandmother's home. That was Fresno's second homicide in the past week with no arrests made in either case.

The week's toll on young lives proved especially stark. On Monday, March 23, at approximately 1:20 a.m., Northeast Policing District officers responded to the area of Fourth Street and East San Jose Avenue regarding multiple reports of gunshots. When officers arrived, they found three shooting victims. One victim, a 15-year-old male juvenile, had been struck by gunfire to his upper body and was located at East San Jose Avenue and Bond Street; that victim was pronounced deceased on scene. A second victim, a 15-year-old male juvenile, who had also been struck by gunfire to his upper body, was found on East San Jose Avenue between Bond Street and Fourth Street; the second victim was transported to Community Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased by medical staff. A third victim, a 14-year-old male juvenile struck by gunfire to his upper body, was found several blocks away near Bond Street and East San Ramon Avenue; he was transported to Community Regional Medical Center, where he had surgery and is currently listed in stable condition. The investigation revealed that all four victims were walking together when they were shot at.

The string of killings marked the sixth homicide in Fresno so far in 2026. In each case, detectives have turned to the public for leads. Anyone with information on the Kidane homicide is urged to contact Fresno Police Homicide Detectives N. Carr at (559) 621-2445 or J. Baroni at (559) 621-2516. Anonymous tips may be submitted through Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-STOP (7867). For the deaths of the two teenagers on East San Jose Avenue, authorities are asking anyone with information to contact Fresno Police Department Homicide Detectives A. Lopez at (559) 621-2443 or Detective N. Carr at (559) 621-2445. In the Espinosa case, detectives C. Franks at 559-621-2527 and R. Montoya at 559-621-2449 are seeking witnesses.

The pace of the violence, with three separate scenes worked by overlapping detective teams inside of five days, underscores the pressure on the Fresno Police Department's homicide unit heading into spring. None of the cases has produced a public arrest as of Tuesday.
