Fresno Driver Arrested for DUI After Rollover Crash Ignites Fire
A passenger pulled a driver from a burning car on Highway 41 after a late-night rollover south of American Avenue; the driver was arrested for DUI.

A passenger pulled a driver from a burning vehicle after a late-night rollover on Highway 41 south of American Avenue, and the driver was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, the California Highway Patrol said.
The crash occurred after 10:30 p.m. on Highway 41, south of American Avenue in Fresno County. CHP says the driver was heading southbound when they lost control, drifted onto the center divider and overturned. The vehicle caught fire shortly after rolling over.
The passenger inside the car pulled the driver out before the flames spread further. Both were transported to a Fresno hospital for treatment, according to CHP.

When officers arrived at the scene, they said they smelled alcohol on the driver's breath. The driver was arrested and is expected to face DUI charges.
A separate account from FOX26 reporter Michael Tellez added details not included in the CHP account: Tellez reported the vehicle veered off the road and struck a parked truck with two people inside before rolling over, and that the driver's cellphone automatically dialed 911 following the crash. FOX26 reported no injuries, a claim that conflicts with the CHP account describing hospital transport for both occupants of the rolling vehicle. CHP has not publicly clarified whether a parked truck was also involved or confirmed the extent of injuries to all parties at the scene.
