Fresno man on motorized bicycle killed in suspected DUI crash
A 39-year-old Fresno man died in a bike lane on Millbrook Avenue after a suspected DUI driver hit him near Gettysburg Avenue, closing the road for hours.
A 39-year-old Fresno man died Friday night after a woman suspected of driving under the influence hit him while he was riding a motorized bicycle in the bike lane on Millbrook Avenue just south of Gettysburg Avenue in northeast Fresno.
The crash happened around 10 p.m. on May 15, 2026. Police said officers found a white sedan pulled over at the scene and discovered the victim trapped underneath the vehicle. Fire crews and emergency medical personnel pulled him out and tried lifesaving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver stayed at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of DUI. Fresno police Lt. Michael Pierce said alcohol played a part in the crash. Investigators interviewed witnesses and obtained surveillance video from nearby homes as they worked to piece together exactly what happened in the moments before impact.
The Fresno Police Department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit is handling the case, a sign that investigators are examining speed, lane position and other factors in addition to impairment. Millbrook Avenue from Norwich Avenue to Gettysburg Avenue was expected to remain closed for several hours while officers processed the scene.
The death puts a harsh spotlight on the vulnerability of people riding motorized bicycles and other small vehicles on northeast Fresno streets, where a marked bike lane did not prevent a fatal collision. For riders moving through corridors like Millbrook, the central question is not only what led to this crash, but whether DUI enforcement and street design are keeping pace with the risks.
