A man drove a vehicle into an occupied residence near Corona and San Jose Avenue in Fresno on Sunday morning, ignited a nearly two-hour armed standoff and ultimately wounded himself with a knife as officers moved in to make an arrest, Fresno police said.

The sequence began just before 9:30 a.m. when a caller reported a restraining-order violation at the home. When officers arrived, the suspect got into a vehicle and drove it into the residence while people were still inside.

After the crash, the man armed himself with a knife and made threats indicating he intended to harm himself. Fresno Police Department negotiators spent roughly two hours working to de-escalate the situation, keeping their focus on the safety of the people who remained inside the home. He eventually surrendered.

The arrest did not end without injury. As officers moved to take him into custody, the suspect wounded himself with the knife and was transported to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment. No other injuries were reported from either the crash or the standoff.

Police arrested the man on charges of felony vandalism and domestic violence. Because the entry into the home allegedly violated an existing restraining order, the case could carry additional criminal penalties tied to contempt or protective-order violations, depending on the order's specific terms and any prior related incidents. Prosecutors and the courts will determine the final scope of charges after reviewing investigative reports, medical records and witness statements.

The suspect had not been publicly identified as of Sunday. Initial reports described the vehicle as a van, though a subsequent account in the same coverage referred to it as a car; Fresno police had not confirmed the specific type or make by late Sunday.
