Fresno State launches first local media day for new Pac-12 era

Fresno State used a July 19 athletics update to announce the first locally hosted football media day in program history, bringing the Bulldogs to Table Mountain Casino Resort for a Fresno-centered start to the new Pac-12 era. The event was presented by Table Mountain and gave local reporters, fans and supporters an early look at Fresno State Football before the season begins.

The move marked a clear break from the Mountain West Conference pattern that shaped Fresno State’s preseason routine for years. In 2025, the Bulldogs were scheduled for and participated in the league’s Mountain West Football Media Days, a conference-run showcase that kept the preseason spotlight outside Fresno. This year’s local format put the university in control of the rollout and tied the program more closely to its own base in Fresno County and the Central Valley.

The conference change itself was set in motion on Sept. 12, 2024, when Fresno State was announced as a future Pac-12 member for the 2026-27 academic year. The rebuilt Pac-12 then said it officially launched on July 1, 2026, with Fresno State among its full-time members, alongside Boise State, Colorado State, Gonzaga, San Diego State, Texas State, Utah State, Oregon State and Washington State.

For Fresno County, that transition carries practical and symbolic weight. Conference affiliation shapes travel, television exposure, recruiting, revenue and the way Fresno State is marketed to fans. The local media day does not change the schedule by itself, but it does show how the university wants to present the program now: with Fresno as the starting point, not a league site elsewhere.

That matters in a city where Fresno State athletics is one of the region’s most visible public institutions and a regular source of shared identity across campus, alumni circles and longtime Valley fan bases. By hosting the media day at Table Mountain Casino Resort, the university put its football program in front of the local community before the games start and framed the season as part of a broader conference transition rather than just another preseason stop.
