Golden 1 opens Fresno State branch focused on financial education

Golden 1 Credit Union opened its newest Fresno branch at Campus Pointe at Fresno State on June 23, adding a site designed to do more than process deposits and withdrawals. The branch, marked by a ribbon-cutting at the campus-area retail center, pairs traditional banking with dedicated space for financial education in a spot that sits close to Fresno State students, workers and nearby residents.

The credit union is framing the branch as part of its Financial Resource Center model, which it describes as a community banking and learning space. Golden 1 says those centers offer free financial workshops and coaching along with everyday banking services, a setup meant to give young adults and families more hands-on help with money management.

Erica Taylor, speaking for Golden 1, said the branch is intended to help people build skills that are often left out of classrooms. She said the skills needed for a thriving financial life are not always taught, and pointed to savings, investing and retirement planning as core topics the Fresno State location is meant to cover. That gives the branch a different pitch from a standard retail opening: it is being sold as a place where account access and financial literacy sit side by side.

The Fresno State setting fits that goal. Campus Pointe is expected in Fresno State planning materials to strengthen the campus’s eastern edge and improve connections between the university and the surrounding area. Golden 1 also says all Californians can join the credit union, so the branch is not limited to students even if Fresno State is the most visible landmark nearby.

The opening also comes as Golden 1 expands the Financial Resource Center model beyond Fresno. On March 23, 2026, the credit union announced it would launch a multi-location rollout of those centers at select branches across Northern and Central California during 2026. Golden 1 already has multiple Fresno-area branches, which means the Campus Pointe site adds another local foothold, but with a sharper focus on workshops, coaching and education for people trying to manage paychecks, loans and long-term planning.
