Close to 6,000 fans were expected to flood downtown Fresno as the Grizzlies opened their 25th season at Chukchansi Park against the Stockton Ports, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m., fireworks after the game and a magnet schedule giveaway for early arrivals.

The game marked more than another home date on the calendar. Minor League Baseball said the 2026 season is meant to commemorate 25 years in Downtown Fresno, and the franchise moved into what is now Chukchansi Park in 2002. The ballpark first opened to the public on May 1, 2002, and has been home to the Grizzlies ever since, giving the opener extra weight for a team that has become one of the city’s most visible gathering points.

That matters downtown because a night game can translate directly into foot traffic for nearby restaurants, bars and other businesses that depend on ballpark crowds. The Grizzlies spent the opening weekend on the road against the Visalia Rawhide, making Tuesday night the real home opener and the first chance for Fresno to see whether the anniversary season can still pull a big crowd into the urban core on a weekday.

The club also leaned into the event as a full entertainment stop, not just a baseball game. ABC30 reported the team had debuted more than 45 new ballpark menu items ahead of opening day, while the magnet schedule and postgame fireworks gave families a simple reason to stay through the final out. The team and city also put new security measures and a clear-bag policy in place, underscoring how much attention a large downtown crowd can draw when Fresno is trying to manage both celebration and safety.

The Grizzlies’ history in Fresno goes well beyond one night, and Minor League Baseball says more than 300 Triple-A players have passed through the city and reached the majors. The franchise also points to a 2015 season that ended with a Pacific Coast League title and a Triple-A National Championship while it was affiliated with the Houston Astros, followed by an affiliation change to the Washington Nationals in 2019. Twenty-five years after moving downtown, the Grizzlies remain part sports team, part civic fixture, and part test of how much life Chukchansi Park can still bring to Fresno after dark.
