A man was shot and killed Sunday evening in the Starbucks parking lot at Shaw and Dale avenues in Northwest Fresno, with Fresno police opening a homicide investigation and releasing no suspect information as of late that night.
Officers responded around 5:50 p.m. on March 29 to the Starbucks just east of Highway 99. When they arrived, they found the victim with a gunshot wound to the chest, Fresno police said. Medical aid was provided at the parking lot, but the man died from his injuries.
The shooting drew a significant law enforcement response. A large portion of the parking lot and the surrounding area was taped off in the aftermath, and officers expected the scene to remain closed for several hours as investigators processed the area.
As of Sunday night, Fresno police had not released the victim's identity, including his name or age. No suspect description, vehicle information, or account of the events leading up to the shooting had been made public. No arrests had been announced.

Police have not indicated whether any witnesses were identified at the scene or whether surveillance footage from the Starbucks or the adjacent businesses along Shaw Avenue is being reviewed as part of the investigation.
The Starbucks at Shaw and Dale avenues sits in a heavily trafficked commercial section of Northwest Fresno, close to the Highway 99 interchange. The fatal shooting there on a Sunday evening left the parking lot cordoned off for hours while police worked to determine what had happened and who was responsible.
