The Fresno Police Department received a call at 12:32 p.m. Tuesday reporting a stabbing near the intersection of Hedges and Wheeler avenues. Police later identified the suspect as 45-year-old London Smith, who investigators say was a roommate of Galloway. According to investigators, "Smith stabbed Galloway multiple times during an argument at the home. Smith then left, walking east on Hedges." Officers conducted what police described as an "extensive search" of the neighborhood and canvassed nearby residences while investigators worked the scene. The situation was described as "very active" as officers canvassed the neighborhood and searched for the suspect. Early reports noted "No description of the suspect was immediately available," though later updates provided the suspect's name and age.

Some initial reports listed nearby cross streets differently, with one outlet referencing Olive and Polk Avenues and others placing the call north of Olive Avenue; the department’s note that the call came from a residence and investigators are still determining the precise scene may account for those differences. Fresno Police Department homicide investigators continue to treat the death as a homicide and are asking anyone with information about Smith’s whereabouts or the incident to contact the detectives or Crime Stoppers.
