New wildfire reported in Fresno County as crews respond

A new wildfire was reported in Fresno County on July 18, with one listed incident identified as the Auberry Rd Prather Fire and burning on private land near Prather. The report put the blaze in the eastern foothills, where rural roads and dry brush can turn a fresh ignition into a fast-moving response.

The initial county update tied the fire to Auberry Road and Prather, giving residents in the foothill corridor the first concrete location to watch as crews moved in. People in Fresno, Clovis, Sanger, Reedley, Selma and Kingsburg often follow these early fire calls closely because smoke and travel disruptions can spread well beyond the ignition point, even when the fire itself starts on private land.

The Fresno County report came during a stretch of active summer fire response in the area. On July 16, the War Fire had burned three acres in Fresno County, and on July 15 the Sunny Fire had burned 0.3 acres. Together, the incidents showed how quickly new ignitions were stacking up across the county as July heat settled in.

Statewide, CAL FIRE’s homepage listed 278,289 emergency responses, 2,323 wildfires, 64,971 acres burned, zero fatalities and 25 structures destroyed. CAL FIRE’s incident listings also showed other July fires across California, including the Peach Fire, Loomis Fire, Point Fire, Pine Fire, Mount Fire and Chowchilla Fire, underscoring how busy crews remained across the state.

For Fresno County, the key question around the Auberry Rd Prather Fire was whether the response would stay small or force broader impacts on nearby rural roads and foothill communities. The July 18 report made clear that firefighters were already dealing with a fresh ignition in one of the county’s most fire-prone corridors.
