North Fire in Fresno County burns 67 acres, fully contained by afternoon
Wind-fed flames raced from North and Temperance avenues to 67 acres, forcing a road closure and one home evacuation before crews stopped the North Fire.

A fast-moving vegetation fire near North and Temperance avenues in Fresno County jumped to 30 acres by 3:33 p.m., forcing CAL FIRE to close Temprance Avenue between North and Central Avenues and place two structures in the fire’s path.
CAL FIRE identified the blaze as the North Fire and put it under the Fresno-Kings Unit unified command as crews worked with zero containment. The fire burned in open ground near a busy rural corridor, where drivers were rerouted and nearby residents watched the flames spread quickly enough to keep two structures under threat.
By 5:28 p.m., the fire had grown to 67 acres, but crews had fully contained it. Wind made suppression difficult throughout the afternoon, slowing progress as firefighters worked to stop the spread before it could move farther into Fresno County.

Officials said one barn was destroyed in the fire. Two homes were threatened but secured, and Fresno County deputies evacuated one of those homes as the fire moved through the area. CAL FIRE said the blaze began as a prescribed agricultural burn that got out of control, turning a controlled burn into a brief but serious threat for the North and Central avenues corridor.
