Pedestrian killed in Highway 99 crash in Fresno, CHP says
A woman was killed after stepping into southbound Highway 99 north of North Avenue, where a Dodge Charger struck her at 10 p.m., CHP said.

A woman died after she entered southbound Highway 99 just north of North Avenue and was struck by a Dodge Charger in the number one lane, the California Highway Patrol said. Emergency personnel were already performing life-saving measures when officers arrived at 10:00 p.m. Saturday, April 18, 2026.
CHP said the woman died at the scene from her injuries. Investigators have not released her name. The driver of the Dodge Charger remained at the scene and cooperated with officers, and CHP said drugs or alcohol do not appear to have been factors for the driver.
The crash unfolded on one of Fresno’s most heavily used corridors, where southbound traffic on Highway 99 funnels past North Avenue and carries a steady mix of commuters, freight traffic and local drivers moving through the city. The question now facing investigators is why the woman was in the roadway before the collision.
A toxicology report is pending for the woman who died, and the crash remains under investigation. CHP has not said whether speed, visibility or another factor contributed to the deadly collision.
