Ben Ben, a robotic dog from Robo Enrichment, turned heads in Central California by doing something simple and human: making people smile. In Clovis, Crystal Faith Isch said the experience felt a lot like having a real pet, calling it fun and affectionate as the robotic dog moved, played and responded like an animal in the room.

That response matters in Fresno County, where loneliness and social isolation are common concerns for families, seniors and children who need an easy way to connect. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says social isolation means lacking relationships, contact or support, while loneliness is the feeling of being disconnected. The agency also says both can raise the risk of serious mental and physical health problems. The World Health Organization added another reason the issue has gained attention: in 2025, it said 1 in 6 people worldwide was affected by loneliness.

Robo Enrichment says Ben Ben and its other robotic dog, Parker, are built for more than novelty. The company describes the sessions as tools for social-emotional learning, physical activity and inclusive fun. Its iRD-SIE curriculum uses 60-minute classes led by certified iRobotic Dog Coaches and can include commands, group games, relaxation exercises and movement challenges. The company says the robots can also remove barriers that can keep people from participating, including allergies, cost and pet-care requirements.

Paul Gonzales, the company’s chief executive officer, said the value of the technology comes from combining robotics with human interaction. Ana Torrea, a Robo Enrichment staff member, said the dogs help bring people out of their shells and connect STEM learning with social engagement. That combination gives the project a practical edge in classrooms, camps, therapy programs and community spaces where a low-pressure connection can open the door to conversation.

Robo Enrichment, Inc. was incorporated July 10, 2025, and Fresno-area filings list the company at 2911 E. Barstow Ave. in Fresno. The filing identifies Gonzales as chief executive officer and director, with Omar Sadek listed as a director. For Fresno and neighboring communities, Ben Ben is becoming a small but memorable example of how a little bit of robotics can create a little more room for connection.
