Teen Arrested After Stealing Parents' Car, Crashing Into Fresno Macy's

A 14-year-old boy drove his parents' car through the entrance of the Macy's Men's store at Fashion Fair Mall in northeast Fresno on Thursday morning, then backed out and fled — only to be arrested a short distance away, still sitting in the vehicle.

Fresno police received a call just after 8 a.m. about a vehicle slamming into the Macy's Men's store entrance off Fresno Street and Santa Ana Avenue. When officers arrived, they found the entry doors had been driven through. The vehicle had entered the store, backed out, exited the other side and then fled the mall.

Officers located the teen nearby, still inside the vehicle, and took him into custody. He was booked into juvenile hall on charges of auto theft and felony vandalism, according to ABC30. The Fresno Bee described the arrest as being made on suspicion of the same offenses. Fresno police said the teen had taken the vehicle without his parents' permission.

Macy's was closed at the time of the crash, though employees were already inside the store. Police said no one was injured. ABC30 reported that Action News crews were on scene and observed the teen being loaded into an ambulance. The store remained closed for the rest of the day.

The extent of structural damage to the Men's entrance was not immediately available, and no statements from mall management or Macy's have been released. The teen's name was not disclosed, consistent with standard practice for juvenile suspects.
